a moment in time, a legacy forever.
Perched on a dramatic bluff above the Pacific, MARALUZ is a rare and extraordinary opportunity to own one of the most exclusive properties in Mexico's next great luxury destination—Costalegre. Spanning 75 acres with private access to a secluded beach, this oceanfront compound features five beautifully crafted homes, each connected by cobblestone paths and surrounded by untouched nature. Created by renowned artist and architect Robert Gilbert, MARALUZ is a singular expression of vision, privacy, and beauty—offered now for the first time. Inspired by the sea and the light. Welcome to MARALUZ.
In time, four additional homes were built, each one reflecting Gilbert’s signature balance of artistic freedom and architectural rigor. All are connected by hand-laid cobblestone roads that wind through native flora, terraces, and sweeping ocean vistas. Every space is infused with light, salt air, and the feeling of being completely removed from the world. Today, the property holds the rare entitlement to build up to 32 additional two-story residences, offering extraordinary potential while preserving the original vision of harmony with nature.
Gilbert, whose clientele included cultural icons such as Bob Dylan, Don Henley, Cheech Marin, and Herb Alpert, considered this his masterwork. He poured his life, vision, and craftsmanship into every detail—from the hand-cut tile mosaics that shimmer like archaeological relics, to the five-petal rose inlaid in the floor, a tribute to Mary Magdalene, the villa’s namesake.
The project was also deeply inspired by Gilbert's wife, actress Valerie Wildman. Her creative spirit, love of nature, and passion for meaningful spaces helped shape the emotional heart of MARALUZ, infusing it with warmth, imagination, and soul.
Before his passing in 2015, Robert Gilbert had already lived many lives—as a pioneering kinetic sculptor, celebrated builder of custom homes and sailing ships, visionary entrepreneur, and Oscar-winning filmmaker. But it was here, on this hidden coastline, that he created the work he called his most personal and profound. MARALUZ is his legacy—a place where art, nature, and soul converge.
But this place is more than a home. It is a creation shaped by sea and light, by solitude and beauty, and by the devotion of a man who believed in the power of art to elevate life. It was never offered for sale—until now.
This is MARALUZ.
More than two decades ago, acclaimed architect and artist Robert Gilbert set sail for Mexico aboard a 100-foot wooden cutter he had spent ten years building by hand. He wasn’t searching for a new commission—he was searching for stillness, for nature, and perhaps, for what comes next. But everything changed when he first laid eyes on a wild stretch of coastline south of Puerto Vallarta, near the fishing village of Tehuamixtle, where the jungle meets the sea in one of the most secluded corners of the Costa Alegre.
From the air, it was breathtaking: a private half-mile beach nestled below a granite bluff, backed by mountains and completely untouched by development. The journey to get there was nearly impossible at the time—navigating two mountain ranges and dense jungle tracks—but for Gilbert, it was the beginning of something extraordinary.
Together with financier and friend James “Kip” Hale, Gilbert began creating not just a home, but a world. Over the next several years, the land was transformed with care and precision into a private 75-acre compound, anchored by a central villa unlike anything else in Mexico. The villa—built using sacred geometry and the “Divine Proportion"—was designed to breathe, to open, and to blend seamlessly with its environment. Vaulted brick domes, arched colonnades, cascading pools, and hand-fired tiles created a sense of timeless harmony.
